DOGS ARE FAMILY
Dogs have feelings too as we do. When you get a dog or puppy it should be considered as
part of your family. Every dog will listen to you and would be willing to be trained if treated correctly.
Dogs can be stubborn just like humans. None of us are perfect. No dog should be put in
an arena to be a fighting machine. Dogs are not born to do that. Just like people use Pit Bulls
this is so wrong! I have met so many Pit Bulls over the last few years. People think Pit Bulls are
such vicious dogs. The majority of them are love bugs. It’s not that the dog is vicious, it is how the
dog is treated and raised. Any dog can be vicious if treated or raised badly.
Dogs are such wonderful companions for an individual or family. They can be a guardian dog
to help protect livestock from predators. They can be used for search and rescue in water or on land.
Some dogs are trained for therapy dogs which these dogs go into hospitals and go visit patients
young and old to help calm them down while in the hospital on some circumstances and then some
patients have anxiety of just missing their own pets.
Least but not less are the dogs that are trained to be service dogs. These dogs have a lot of responsibility
and are used to help the blind get around on their daily lifestyle, helps people that are wheelchair bound and
retrieving things for them and even for the Military either while in service or help our Military men
and women cope with the world once coming home.
All in all, dogs are just exceptional animals and if treated properly, they are the best animal to have in an individual’s
life or a family’s life. Just need to find the right dog for the perfect fit that is needed for that family.
Things to think about on your new dog or puppy. If your dog will be living in the house or
outside. If your dog will be living inside, if no doggie door is available (which is the best option if
possible to install) for this dog to go outside to do his or her business, then you will need to do
some training on this new dog to wait for you to take outside or take for a walk. You could also
use puppy pads in case of an accident if the dog or puppy could not wait for you for some
reason. It’s always better to lay down some puppy pads in the beginning just in case of
accidents. It’s always better to be safe than sorry instead of getting angry with your dog or
puppy. But, you will need patience through this training process.
Also, make sure your new dog or puppy has adequate food and water throughout the day.
You could train a dog to eat at certain times and a certain amount of food everyday.
Always want to read your dog food bag according to weight of dog as to how much food that dog
is to eat on a daily base this is for the dog not to become malnutrition.
If you have a dog that is just a nibbler then you could just leave food out 24/7 and they will just
nibble when they want.
If your dog will be living outside? If it’s just a family dog and living outside, STOP this dog is
to be part of the family and not just living outside. My question for you then is why are you
getting a dog? A dog has feelings too, they need to be loved. Sure, they are there to protect, but
they will still protect in the house. Make them part of your family. Now, on the other hand there
are outside dogs that know they are bred for this. These dogs are usually found on farms or
ranches of all sizes and the bigger the place the more dogs you might have.
These dogs are Livestock Guardian Dogs. These dogs are use to be living outside and being close to the
livestock that they are protecting against predators. These dogs also need adequate food and
water. Their food and water is best to keep in a lifted tray or enclosed food and water bottles to
keep bugs and ants out of their food and water. These dogs also need adequate shade and
cover because of the weather, sun out or if raining or snowing they need a dry place to go in to.
What to do with your new dog?
Are you going to become a breeder? Take it from experience, yes we are dog lovers and have always
been part of our lives. But dog breeding is a very big commitment and very time consuming.
Then it also takes a few litters sold to get your name out there and how your puppies are treated and
how your own dogs are treated when people come to you when looking for a puppy.
When you find a breeder that you are thinking about because you like pictures or prices of
puppies, ask the breeder for previous buyers contact information. The breeder should not have
a problem in giving you this information. Call some previous buyers for references on the
breeder that you are thinking about doing business with.
If not breeding or showing, you should always be a responsible owner of a dog or puppy and
get it spayed or neutered . There are too many animals in shelters that are in need of a home
and by spaying or neutering it cuts down the population of unwanted animals in the shelters and
the possibility of them being put to sleep permanently.
Does anyone in your household have allergies?
If so, the best thing is to look at a dog or puppy that does not shed such as a Poodle or even a
Golden Doodle (which is mixed with Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle in general).
But, on the Golden Doodle I have been told to look into the genealogy of this breed to make
sure it has more Poodle bloodline in it for the shedding aspect.
And always keep your animal vaccinated through your veterinarian and have them taken to
your vet every year from an annual exam to check for any issues that you might need to be
When it’s time to get a new dog or puppy for you or your family there are some
things to think about to pick the right dog or puppy.
Do you have children?
You need to make sure of the breed of dog that will accept all ages of
children. Some dogs would prefer older children that do not pick on them so much
rather than just play with them what I mean on this, is like pulling a dog’s hair or even tail.
This is just an accident waiting to happen, with the dog getting upset and biting
the child this is just a reflex of the dog to bite in some circumstances because of the pulling.
The child just needs to be taught this is not to be done because in turn they could be hurt by the dog by accident.
Do you have other animals?
Make sure you take other domestic animals with you to new dog or puppy to
make sure they all get along. It’s always a good idea to do this.
There are at times that animals just do not get along and it’s good that you find out
ahead of time instead of getting the new puppy or dog to your
house and then end up having so much trouble with them that
actually one could get seriously injured.
You have also fallen for the new dog or puppy and now
you have to in turn take it back where you got it
if they will let you bring it back or end up putting
up with havoc until you find a new home for your new animal.
What type of dog personality are you looking for?
There are all types of dogs to chose from. It’s always best to find the
right one that will fit your needs. Are you an active person?
Then focus on a high maintenance and high energy level dog. Some suggestions are,
Dalmatians, Retrievers, Jack Russells , Golden Retrievers and Shepherds of all sorts.
This are just a few dogs that have high energy levels for your active life.
If you are more of a stay at home person and laid back, maybe focus on
a good couch potato dog. A great dog for this is a GreyHound,
yes a greyhound even though these dogs did their share of racing
and you would think they love to run that is not true. Once
these dogs retire their racing life they love to just lay around and yes
preferably on the couch and will take the whole couch.
They don’t mind a short walk, but they are just looking for a new
home that they totally deserve.
Plus, there are several other dogs for this lifestyle too.
